DIPR
INTRODUCTION
Five Publicity Units of Directorate of Information and Public Relations (DIPR) were opened in five Hill District Headquarters including Churachandpur in 1975. The District Publicity Unit was revamped with the opening of District Information Office and appointment of District Information Officer in 1978.
Located at District Headquarters, Tuibong, the DIO, Churachandpur Office building was constructed by PWD as Department Deposit Work with three rooms during 2008-09. It is currently run by a District Information Officer.
ACTIVITIES :
Press Release
The District Information Office, Churachandpur releases Press Notes highlighting activities and achievement of the District Administration, Churachandpur through mass media. On the other hand, the office also provides latest information of the State Government to the people of the District whenever they seek information from the office.
Churachandpur Reporter
The District Information Office regularly publishes ‘Churachandpur Reporter’ highlighting the activities and achievements of different Government offices in Churachandpur District on the occasions of Republic Day and Independence Day celebration.
Multi-Media Campaign
Multi Media Campaign on the activities of the Government and Photo Exhibition highlighting the achievements of the Government has been organized by the office to make people living in the hill areas aware about various welfare programmes and schemes. However, the campaign could not be organized since some years back due to shortage of fund.
Liaison & Training
Apart from liaison works, the office also organizes/impart basic training to aspiring journalists of the district at regular intervals. 7-Day Basic Course in News Reporting was organized from May 12 to May 19, 2017 at Lamka Press Club, Churachandpur in collaboration with Manipur Hills Journalists’ Union (MHJU). A one-day seminar on Media & Communal Harmony was organized in collaboration with Editors’ Guild, Manipur and Manipur Hills Journalists’ Union on May 6, 2017 at Lamka Press Club.
ACTION PLAN:
The District Information Office is running without separate budget allocation. It is also a disadvantage that there is no internet facility in the office. Besides, inadequate staff strength is a handicap. The office is also planning to give media coverage of every Government functions or programmes when the office is equipped with requisite number of staff, vehicle and equipments.
